Why is my child in your class?
As a resource teacher, it it my job to serve students who have IEPs or Individualized Education Plans. I work with students of various ability levels on mastering their individual goals on their IEPs and teaching the general education curriculum. I serve students in two settings, one being in my resource classroom, and in the general education setting through a co-teaching setting.
What happens during an IEP meeting?
The IEP team, which is made up of parents, teachers, special educators, and other staff members, meets at least once a year to review and make revisions to the most current IEP that a student has. Every 3 years the team will re-evaluate students to make sure that they have the most accurate data available to better serve students' needs.
What can I do at home to help my student succeed?
Reading with and to your child at home is one of the best ways to help your child with reading. In addition, setting up a consistent time where students work on homework or reading is also another way to help your student succeed. Lastly, it is useful to help organize your student's backpack and take-home folder at least once a month since students this age need guidance on organizational skills.
If I want to get in touch with you, what is the most effective way?
Email is the quickest way to get in touch with me! My email is [email protected]. I check my email frequently during the day. You are also able to call Granite Mountain during school hours.
What happens if my child has missing assignments?
Most teachers accept late work. They typically take a percentage of the grade away as a penalty. You or your child can check for missing assignments and grades on PowerSchool. The link to log in is on my Contact page. If you and your child do not know the log in information, the front office at Granite Mountain is able to help you.
What is Enrichment? What does my child work on during that time?
Each student will have an enrichment class every day apart from Wednesdays. Some students who have IEPs will participate in enrichment within their general education team. Some students will be in my resource class during that time. The focus of Enrichment is to work with students on core skills that they are learning in both math and ELA. My class focuses on Math on Mondays and Tuesdays, and they English and Literature skills on Thursdays and Fridays. Student will be working on core skills for both areas as well as working on their individual goals for their IEPs each week. This class will not have homework.
